The $12 million golf course is Tunica County's third and finest. Designed by McCumber & Associates, one of the world's premiere golf course architectural firms, the 212-acre public course was created to guarantee rewarding play for beginners as well as professionals. The beauty of the course, according to superintendent Jason Lloyd, is in the dramatic contours.
"It's something people won't expect to find in the Mississippi Delta," said Lloyd. This course has 30-foot contour changes throughout, so it gives the visual impression of a very difficult course, but it plays very fair." The 18-hole course is managed by Kemper Golf Management, a division of Kemper Sports. The golf and tennis complex also features a 50,000 square foot clubhouse containing four tournament-level clay tennis courts, the only indoor clay courts in the South, according to tennis superintendent Keith Evans. A comprehensive golf outreach program will be enacted to get local residents as well as visitors interested in the game. One of the course's main attractions is its large practice area, said Lloyd. Both the tennis courts and the golf course are public facilities designed to stand up to hard and frequent use. Tunica County government is determined to keep user fees low enough so anyone will be able to play. The four indoor tennis courts are the only Hydro-Grid Har-Tru indoor clay courts south of Washington, D.C. Har-Tru's granular surface acts as a shock-absorbing cushion, allowing players to slide into their returns, preventing joint-jarring stops. One of the most impressive aspects of the technology is the sub-surface irrigation and the ability to control humidity indoors.
